Wasp Nest Removal Heaton Moor

Heaton Moor is a short run from central Stockport, up past Heaton Norris and off Wellington Road North, and it is one of the areas we reach quickest. The fee is £60, fixed, whether the nest is in a first-floor eaves gap on Derby Road or in a shed at the bottom of a long Shaw Road garden. You pay after the treatment, not before it.

Where we find nests in Heaton Moor

The conservation area is a near-unbroken run of Victorian housing put up between 1852 and 1892, laid out on streets that still follow the old field boundaries. Long avenues of matching semi-detached and detached villas, set back behind low front walls, with mature London plane and lime closing over the road. Original eaves detail on a roof of that age, held in permanent shade by a heavy canopy, is about as reliable a nest setting as this borough offers.

The spots we go back to most often in SK4:

• Original eaves and bargeboards. On the villas along Derby Road, Parsonage Road and Broomfield Road the timber has been painted over so many times that the joints have opened. A wasp only needs a gap about the width of a pencil.
• Roof voids under old slate. Where a ridge tile has lifted or a valley gutter has been patched, the void behind it stays dry and undisturbed. Common on the larger detached houses towards Mauldeth Road.
• Shaded rear elevations. The canopy over Thornfield Road and Cranbourne Avenue keeps back walls cool and damp. Nests there are often missed until the colony is large, because nobody sits in that corner of the garden.
• Sheds, summer houses and log stores. The gardens behind Shaw Road and Green Lane are long and well planted, and a German wasp (Vespula germanica) will take a dry shed roof over almost anything else on offer.
• Airbricks and cellar heads. Most of these houses have cellars, and the airbricks at ground level are a standing invitation. The traffic is at ankle height rather than up at the roofline.
• Subdivided villas. Several of the bigger houses off Peel Moat Road and Heaton Moor Road are now flats. The roof void is shared, so the flat hearing the noise is frequently not the flat with the nest.

The Heaton Chapel side

East of the railway the housing changes. Heaton Chapel is largely Edwardian and inter-war, with bay-fronted terraces along Manchester Road and semis around Broadstone Road, so the eaves are shallower and the gardens shorter. Nests here turn up behind plastic fascia fitted over the original timber, inside soffit boxes, and in ground cavities along boundary walls. Same response, same price.

What the job costs

£60. That is the whole figure: the visit, the insecticide dust, and a free return if there is still activity a few days later. No weekend rate, no evening rate, and nothing added for a three-storey villa where the ladder work takes longer. Hornets are treated the same way for the same £60, being simply a larger wasp.

Bumblebee nests are £70, though it is worth saying that most do not need treating at all. They are small, they are not aggressive, and the colony dies back on its own by early autumn. If that is what you have, we will tell you and you can leave it be.

Booking a Heaton Moor visit

Ring 07770 015197 and describe roughly where the wasps are going in: a first-floor corner, a shed roof, a hole in the lawn. That is enough to work with. You do not need to find the nest yourself, and we would rather you did not go up a ladder looking for it.
